Aldo Mondino – Lorenzo Puglisi. La Resistenza
'Festa Araba' by Aldo Mondino (1935/2005) and 'The Great Sacrifice' by Lorenzo Puglisi (1971) are the two monumental works that make up the spectacular exhibition entitled 'Aldo Mondino – Lorenzo Puglisi. La Resistenza', installed from 3 to 16 February 2025 in the Sala Berti of the Istituto Storico Parri Bologna Metropolitana (Bologna, via Sant'Isaia 20), for the eightieth anniversary of the Liberation (1945). The exhibition, curated by Barbara Vincenzi, is promoted by the Aldo Mondino Archive of Milan and the Santo Ficara Gallery of Florence, in collaboration with the Parri Historical Institute, with the patronage of the Municipality of Bologna and the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia Region -Romagna, as part of ART CITY Bologna 2025, on the occasion of Arte Fiera.
An exhibition based on the strength of freedom and one's beliefs. A great homage, in terms of size and intentions, to the Italian Resistance which ended the Second World War, freeing our country from the Nazi-fascist occupation. A visual and tactile symbol of the possibility of traveling along impervious roads that honor the principles of the artists and men Mondino and Puglisi.
Two oversized pictorial works, over 6 months each, of equal strength and importance to the historical anniversary event founding the birth of the Italian Republic, thanks to the symbolism that the two works represent.
In fact, the two works contain the human and mystical sense of a Resistance understood as a tribute to the extreme sacrifice offered by young men and young women to guarantee the rule of law and the civil liberties that we enjoy today and that we too often take for granted. taken for granted, but which also represent the resistance of the oppressed towards the oppressor in every war and in every time, the resistance of the different towards the establishment and that of the artist towards a world that no longer seeks the effort of painting and of that isolation which, if we are talking about radical painting, inevitably derives from it.
The inauguration will be held on Monday 3 February 2025 (6.30 pm) in the presence of Antonio Mondino of the Mondino Archive and Lorenzo Puglisi in the seventeenth-century frescoed setting of the Sala Berti of the Historical Institute named after Ferruccio Parri and dedicated to the actionist-resistance experience. In this historical and value context it will therefore be possible to admire two works in dialogue with each other, among the largest ever created by the two Piedmontese artists, as a symbol of the ever-living memory of a Resistance understood as a struggle to defend and maintain coherence with the own natural, moral, civil and political values, pillars of our republican history.
The preview for the press will be held on Saturday 1 February 2025 at 12.30 at the Istituto Storico Parri (Bologna, via Sant'Isaia 18). Speakers will be Antonio Mondino, Lorenzo Puglisi, the director of the Parri Bologna Metropolitan Historical Institute Agnese Portincasa, the director of the MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art of Bologna of the Bologna Civic Museums Sector Lorenzo Balbi, the curator of the exhibition Barbara Vincenzi, the critic and historian of art Silvia Evangelisti.
The exhibition will also be open to the public on the night of February 8th on the occasion of the ART CITY Bologna White Night.
