Shown for the first time at the Venice Biennale in 1993, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, the chandeliers in wrought iron and Bic pens "Jugen Stilo" have a title that suggests the Jugendstil art movement, the German term for Art Nouveau. Mondino always displayed his fascination with the graphic element in his titles, with letters and alphabets directly borrowed or used in an allusive way. These chandeliers that reflect and refract light not only imitate Bohemian crystal, but also make a humble object, such as the cheapest of all transparent plastic ballpoint pens, into something unique and almost aristocratic. Mondino was able to transform matter, making mass production unique and bringing beauty to what was not beautiful.
