A touching tribute to the close friend and companion in research Alighiero Boetti, with whom Mondino shared many passions, especially that of travel in the Orient. After Boetti’s untimely death in 1994, Mondino dedicated the cycle of paintings Ali-Ali-Alighiero to him, made over the span of one decade. The sky in the triptych is that of Essaouira, the Moroccan city much loved by both artists, and the flight of gulls references Boetti’s famous airplanes, as well as the skies often shown to mark the end of a film.
