Mondino
8 June – 14 July 1990
Verona, Galleria Sant'Egidio Tre
curated by Mariano Mastella, with an introduction by Giorgio Cortenova
Galleria Sant’Egidio Tre in Verona is delighted to present, from 8 June, a major solo exhibition dedicated to Aldo Mondino, one of the most versatile, ironic and cultured figures on the contemporary Italian art scene.
The exhibition, curated by Mariano Mastella and Giorgio Cortenova, offers the public a valuable insight into Mondino’s artistic practice, highlighting his extraordinary ability to inhabit the language of art with an approach that constantly hovers between conceptual play, erudition and irreverence.
The exhibition itinerary unfolds through a selection of works that highlight the variety of media and the diversity of the artist’s visions. Alongside his most recent and celebrated fascinations – linked to Eastern influences and a highly personal experimentation with materials on diverse media – the exhibition in Verona presents a fundamental dialogue with certain key stages of his work from the 1970s.
Among the masterpieces on display, works such as *Una montagna dolce* (1971), a refined composition in oil, tissue paper and sugar on canvas, and *Darwing rosa* (1972), a shining example of Mondini’s biting irony applied to the history of evolution and visual culture, stand out.
Through this core of works, the exhibition presents the image of Mondino as an exceptional ‘pasticheur’, capable of dismantling the rigidity of the avant-garde to arrive at a free style of painting, rich in references and flashes of genius.
To mark the exhibition, a monographic catalogue (published by the gallery) will be released, featuring critical essays by Giorgio Cortenova and Mariano Mastella and a detailed iconographic section.
