The exhibition “Pittura, attrazione fatale” by the artist Aldo Mondino, curated by Ivan Quaroni, will open on Friday 12 December at 7 pm at the brand-new premises of Nicola Pedana Arte Contemporanea (Piazza Matteotti 60) in Caserta. The exhibition will remain open until 20 January 2015. The catalogue, featuring texts by Ivan Quaroni and Enzo Battarra, will be presented at the opening. The new, welcoming space becomes a true home for art and a venue capable of hosting not only prestigious exhibitions but also major cultural events. “Pittura, attrazione fatale” is an exhibition featuring various examples of the Turin-based artist’s work from different periods, particularly from the 1980s to the early 2000s. From the ‘Turcate’ series to works inspired by the Eastern culture that fascinated Mondino, as well as pieces from the ‘Gnawa’ series—Moroccan street performers who best exemplify his attraction to this world. These paintings document Mondino’s preference for painting. According to Ivan Quaroni, “Mondino was a conceptual artist but one who always favoured painting, even though his artistic career includes many installations and sculptures. His approach to painting was very swift, rapid and immediate, linked also to a playful conception he had of creativity and art”. Enzo Battarra writes: “Every critic, every art historian has their own storehouse of memory where they collect the most astonishing images, the unforgettable ones. Aldo Mondino’s dervishes, captured in their whirling dance, are a whirlwind of colours, forms in perpetual motion, geometries of thought.”
