To mark BOOKCITYMILANO, the Riccardo Crespi Gallery, in collaboration with the Aldo Mondino Archive and alongside the exhibition at the gallery, presents the work by Italian artist Aldo Mondino, *Raccolto in Preghiera*.
Raccolto in preghiera is an ephemeral work from 1986, presented at the 1993 Venice Biennale, consisting of a carpet woven from various grains, ranging from rice to broad beans, peas and chickpeas. The work was conceived by Mondino during a trip to Tangier, during which he had the good fortune to meet the famous Moroccan writer Mohamed Choukri, and encapsulates the artist’s key characteristics: a passion for ironic wordplay, openness towards different cultures and, specifically, a fascination with Eastern influences, eclecticism and experimentation in the use of any medium to create art, right up to performance art. Raccolto in preghiera lends itself to being a work of public art that can lightly draw attention to social issues of particular interest. To mark the presentation of the work, an actor will read excerpts from Choukri’s most famous book, Il Pane Nudo.
