The exhibition ‘Aldo Mondino. Nuova Antologia’ opens on 2 April at 5.00 pm, bringing together some fifty works by the artist that document his entire creative journey.
From small-scale paintings to sweets, from dervishes to carpets, Mondino’s historical and more recent themes are represented by key works, from which the artist’s extraordinary technical verve and inventiveness shine through.
Flaminio Gualdoni writes in the introductory essay to the catalogue: “The artist brings to these themes a fierce and voracious curiosity, which makes him a highly cultured figure with a touch of irony, as well as a creator possessing multiple technical skills, capable of moving from engraving to sculpture by virtue of a specific, mastered and cherished craftsmanship. In an age of devaluation of techniques, Mondino opts for a sort of redondant apotheosis of craftsmanship, which he rightly regards as a necessary prerequisite for a total, authentically free inventiveness.”
