Aldo Mondino was a member of the Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato, which wishes to commemorate him as part of the town’s activities linked to EXPO. An eclectic artist, he often worked with food and with the interpretation of different spiritualities. Drawing on the two major themes dear to Mondino, the exhibition is divided into three exhibition spaces:
1 - The Cortile delle Api (Courtyard of the Bees), where the permanent installation that now gives the courtyard its name is accompanied by the work “Gerusalemme”.
2 - The Exhibition Hall, where one wall is dedicated to the glass works from the IZNIK series. Also on display are three large canvases on linoleum depicting moments of Jewish life, which represent an ideal dialogue with “ ”, an important work on Christian spirituality created in 1965. In addition, the adjoining room features a collection of twenty small and medium-sized works.
3- The space created in the area of the former unleavened bread oven, where two bronze sculptures are displayed, along with a display case containing small jewellery items and a significant work from the “Raccolto in preghiera” series, consisting of a carpet made using a wide variety of grains.
The exhibition is open until 6 September, European Day of Jewish Culture, dedicated this year to the theme of bridges, understood as links between cultures and spirituality. During the Day, a large soup will be cooked using the seeds used to create the carpet on display, to be shared with representatives of the various monotheistic religions and with the general public.
